Meet Martin

Martin likes to joke around and say that “his ideal target audience is a group of Alzheimer's sufferers because he can come back often and nobody will remember his jokes.” He's kidding, of course. The truth is that Martin enjoys all of his corporate outings for companies both large and small because stigmas towards those who are less able-bodied are as strong as ever, so Martin likes to speak to the masses and infuse the cultural consciousness with a liberating view that benefits everyone.

Many have heard Martin speak and many more have commented on how they feel after having listened to him. Here are just a mere few who have heard him and felt compelled to write.

Here are some of the comments:

“Amazing lesson of how to be happy in life”

“Fascinating…. Definitely had a wow factor”

“Very good.  Nice perspective, and interactive”

“Great inspiration, good sense of humor, gave me an insight on how to approach disabled persons.”

“Made you feel comfortable.”

“Very good speech.  Showed what all is possible for handicapped people."

Dr Deena S:

"Martin Lloyd is an exceptional person. He went through a traumatic experience with the loss of his leg and the limited use of his arm, but he has never lost his sense of humor. He is very funny and likes to have fun at the same time. He is poignant and focused on telling his story in a way that he creates compassion in his audience about his experiences and at the same time understanding about how to better support those who have to live with some sort of disability. He will hold your heart while he gets into your head as he changes the way you look at your own life and others who are overcoming challenges. Cheers to Martin. Hear! Hear!"

Dr Dana G:

"Martin Lloyd is a dynamic, fun and interesting speaker whose quick wit and keen sense of humor will keep you amused, spellbound and inspired!"

Elena S:

“Martin Lloyd is that rare combination of intelligence, candor, humor, and sensitivity that makes him an extraordinary, engaging, and memorable speaker.  His guest lectures in my international business protocol and diplomacy classes are witty and insightful, and give my international students an excellent grounding in appropriate, compassionate, and proper interaction with those with disabilities, both obvious and not.  Students leave his lectures vastly better prepared to work with those of different abilities and sensitivities, and this is due not only to his unique perspective on life but his remarkable determination as a Royal Air Force and civilian pilot, military hero, aviation examiner, and teacher.

Student evaluations are unanimous in their admiration of and gratitude to him for his willingness to address anything, from the most basic to the more complex issues surrounding what can be a very sensitive topic. In less professional or skilled hands, this subject would be uncomfortable, but Martin makes it accessible and sensible, and creates an environment of openness and participation.  Many of my students, and I suspect the population at large, have never really had this kind of opportunity to discuss courteous and proper treatment of disabled persons; nearly everyone suggests it be required in all academic settings.”

- I hope you’ll be willing to do it again this fall…. You’ve become a staple and a real highlight of the semester for the kids! -Martin

"Martin was fantastic! He was the first speaker of our week long Youth Leadership Conference for high school students. They didn’t stop talking about him the whole week! Thank you, Martin for making such a positive impression on them. You were perfect! Can’t wait to have you come back next year!"

Dr Mary S:

"Martin had his audience laughing and crying with his straight-forward account of his life and the significant impacts his motorcycle accident had on that life. An incredible story from an incredible man."

James Bartlett (Flight Lieutenant, Royal Air Force, Rtd.):

"I have had the pleasure of knowing Martin for several years being first acquainted though our mutual interest in Professional Aviation and our past membership as aircrew in the Royal Air Force.   Our association deepened through membership of the British Officers Mess of San Diego, which was founded in 1933 and, of which, Martin is currently the Chairman.

He suffered a huge misfortune of losing a leg and the use of his right arm as the consequence of a motorcycle accident but this, in no way, has affected his resolve to lead a full and active life.  He possesses a most heart-warming positive attitude, and to my astonishment, has managed to convince both the British Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Aviation Authority to allow him to be a Professional Flight Examiner.   He is, by the way, a first class Pilot.

Martin is well educated and the epitome of an English Gentleman. His speaking skills are excellent and his social skills manifest.  He sets a standard for us all and is a joy to know."

Brian S:

"I first met Martin in 2003. I had at that time been in aviation for some 13 years having spent the previous 27 years in the Music Industry in the USA, UK and Europe. Here I was now flying for a Barnstorming and Air Combat company in sunny California when he rolled himself into the hangar on his sporty wheelchair with a big grin on his face, stood up on his one good leg, thrust out his one good hand and said, “Hi, my name is Martin, I’m a pilot and I’d like to see if I could check out with you guys”.

I immediately thought to myself “you have got to be kidding me, who is this guy and how?”

I was that day admitted into the extraordinary world of Martin Lloyd, Combat Veteran RAF officer, British Airways Pilot and CAA Examiner. I had the privilege to watch while he became a Qualified Helicopter Pilot and if that wasn’t enough, an accomplished drummer in a Beatles revival band.

Martin Lloyd is an inspiration to us all in how to conduct ones self when faced with adversity. I have never seen him feeling sorry for himself, I have watched him in awe as he encourages others to climb higher and achieve more. He does this not by just speaking about it but leading by example as he continues to raise the bar on personal accomplishment.

Martin Lloyd has a wicked sense of humor . . . . . ."
